music supported with new double bass for HYOT

Felix (aged 9), student of Hackney Youth Orchestras Trust Saturday Morning Music School, is the proud recipient of a much-needed new double bass, kindly donated by Stoke Newington First for loan to students.

Gail Bristow of Hackney Youth Orchestras Trust said,

"The school loans instruments to Saturday morning music school students where it can, but unfortunately the cost of a double bass (around £1,000 second-hand) makes it difficult to purchase them. The donation of this instrument to the school is a much-needed, and appreciated, addition.

The future of musicians using expensive instruments such as double bass, French horn and bassoon is endangered, as few families can afford them. This donation by SNF will help ensure that the tradition of playing double bass at Saturday morning music school continues for the next generation of the organisation's young students."

Clissold Swimming Club come third at Leyton

Clissold's swimmers had a great night at the North London Graded League gala at Leyton SC's pool and secured third place. The club's swimmers were in fine form and clocked up 10 first places, 7 second places, and five third places and a clutch of upgrades from some great individual performances. The final scores were:

  • 1st  Leyton 122 points
  • 2nd   Northolt 156 points
  • 3rd  Clissold 183 points
  • 4th   Waltham Forest   186 points
  • 5th Haringey 217 points
  • 6th Ealing 244 points
After a year spent re-building the club after the closure of Clissold Leisure Centre the hard work of the swimmers really paid off with a strong and focussed performance by the whole squad.

Clissold Swimming Club received funding from Stoke Newington First and used the money to buy new equipment for the club to improve the swimming training, we are happy to see that they have used them to produce such a great result.
